these fire photos are from the san marcial fire, in the bosque del apache bird refuge near socorro, NM. it burned incredibly hot for one day, may 4, and was pretty much done. 5000 acres. this is my engine and crew.

4-05 :rain


sat inside a pole barn all day trying to hear instructors babble over the banging of the bay doors in the wind and the occasional squall of rain on the roof. guy on the left is Victor, one of my engine crew.

it's not quite the most interesting photo, but it was the climax of the day. had to walk 3 miles in 45 minutes with those 45LB vests on. quite a sight, with all thirty of us.
