pirates of the columbia
I was helping tony out with a trackersNW camp this week, and we took the kids out in the umiak and kayaks a few times. on a whim we took the kids out at dusk and paddled in the dark to goat island and camped out.. in the morning we were headed back upstream and making slow time. so we pulled over, chopped down a tree with a knife, rigged up a sail with a blue tarp and some rope, and sailed back to st. helens in style! I wanted to take more pictures, but the umiak was moving so quickly under sail that it was difficult to keep up in the kayak and it was risky to try to paddle so fast with the camera out of the dry bag.

stop the room, I'd like to get off
I was trying to take pictures, but they kept coming out all blurry, except for this one guy who is sitting there in all of them as clear as can be. I guess he must be a really stable guy.

I was just looking through all my posts, and I realized that this photo had no explanation, and deserved one. this is danny and kiliii on day 2 of our willamette trip. we paddled from the columbia to salem in six days and this is the only picture I posted from the whole trip! maybe I'll drag out some more in the future...
